Enjoy the historical surroundings of a 15th century mansion just a stone’s throw from the River Severn and the centre of the medieval town of Shrewsbury. The house is bursting with character and provides the perfect atmosphere in which to entertain and relax.

Abbots Lodge offer two exclusive gourmet experiences: a personal chef service and culinary master class breaks. Guests can take the opportunity to have a personal chef create an exceptional dining experience for you while you relax in the comfort of your sumptuous surroundings. Your chef, Toru Yanada, has over fifteen years’ professional chef experience including time at Michelin starred restaurants such as Hibiscus, Ludlow and Simpsons, Birmingham. Toru will create an inspired menu using the finest ingredients, many sourced from local Shropshire suppliers.

For mid-week stays of two nights or more, our culinary master class breaks provide the perfect get-away for all food-lovers. The master class takes place in the kitchen of Abbots Lodge and is tailored to suit your personal culinary desires. An individual programme is created for each booking so you can choose exactly what you learn. The class includes hands-on experience and demonstrations for a full leaning experience. With Toru Yanada (see above) as your master class tutor, you are sure to learn great new techniques and pick up lots of creative tips.

Climb the 500-year-old oak staircase to the four beautiful bedrooms, ranging from the opulent – The Cadfael Suite, complete with four-poster bed, chaise-longue and claw and ball roll-top bath to the charming – Sanctuary, with it's arching eaves and beautiful bed canopy.
  • For relaxation: Antique furnishings, an open fireplace and comfortable sofas combine in the sitting room, perfect for putting your feet up after a day of exploration.
  • For recreation: Everything from pedicures to massages can be arranged in the property (at extra cost)

There’s a suntrap of a patio garden to enjoy, and a breathtaking view over Benedictine Abbey.

  • If you’re looking for a more relaxed stay, take time out in beautiful Quarry Park or enjoy a boat trip on the River Severn.
  • The birthplace of Darwin, Shrewsbury boasts over 600 listed buildings including the Castle, now a regimental museum and the world-famous Shrewsbury Abbey, so there’s plenty to explore.
  • And of course, Shrewsbury is a shopper’s haven; choose from designer shops, independent retailers and a whole host of cafes and restaurants to rest tired feet!
